Parallel and Intersecting Lines

Angles made by crossing lines, parallel lines cut by a transversal — the geometry rules every later class leans on.

What your child learns

  • Identify vertically opposite angles and linear pairs — and why they behave as they do
  • Recognise corresponding and alternate angles when a transversal crosses parallel lines
  • Use angle relationships to find unknown angles without measuring
  • Check whether two lines are parallel using angle evidence
  • Draw parallel and perpendicular lines cleanly

Parent pointer

Geometry marks are the easiest to secure in exams — the rules are few and they never change. If your child learns to write the reason next to every angle (“vertically opposite”, “alternate angles”), they’ll keep full marks through Class 10. Start that habit in this chapter.

Quick questions parents ask

My child finds the angle names confusing — F, Z, X angles?

Those letter-shapes (F = corresponding, Z = alternate, X = vertically opposite) are memory aids, and they work — but exams want the proper names. The video teaches the shape trick and the proper vocabulary together.

Does this chapter matter for Tallentex and Olympiads?

Very much. Angle-chasing questions are a fixture in every Class 7 competitive paper, and they’re very winnable — the rules fit on one page. Our test series has them in every mock.
